After hitting land, Tropical Storm Alex formed as the first named storm of 2022 Hurricane Season. It dumped record amounts of rainfall on southern Florida before forming into a Tropical Storm. Tropical Storm Alex has now passed without causing further damage to land and is making its way into the Atlantic. At the same time that this tropical depression gather strength, the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration updated its prediction for storm activity in the Atlantic to be more active than originally predicted. Colorado State University scientists and the Administration now predict that there will be 20 named tropical storms, 10 hurricanes, 5 hurricanes that could reach category 3 or higher.
Flood damage and repair should be your top concern during a major hurricane or rainstorm. While people worry about the impacts of wind and fallen trees, flooding can have a much greater impact on property and make it more costly to repair. More recently storms have produced more property damage after large hurricanes make landfall and weaken, but continue to pour large amounts rain traveling across land. Millions of dollars in property loss is caused by flash flooding each year.
